The Systems Biology Group at the University of Stuttgart represents an interdisciplinary
approach to understand biology at the systems level.
The group members are researchers from the
Institute for Systems Theory and
Automatic Control, and the Institute for System Dynamics.
The biological objects
under investigation range from, e.g. metabolism or phototaxis in
E. coli
to signal transduction in mammalian cells. Expertise is not only introduced
through collaborations with various scientists, but the group itself consists
of both engineers and biologists.
With the help of mathematical modeling,
structural and dynamical aspects of the chosen model systems are investigated.
System theoretical analysis concern stability, robustness and adaptation
of cellular systems enabling a deeper insight into the functional bases of
life.
